Nanjing Xiaguan Riverfront Conceptual Master Plan

The Xiaguan Riverfront is simultaneously located outside the historic wall of the city and behind the engineered system of levees that control flooding along the Yangzte River. As a result, the area has evolved in an organic way that has been limited by its lack of identity and isolation from the civic and social structure of Nanjing. The challenge is to re-imagine the degraded riverfront environment and overcome the constructed physical barriers.
