PlaceLab's mission is to explore the interplay between urban environments and human behavior through research, focusing on applying these insights in practical contexts. We have a special interest in studying unconventional public spaces and integrating both qualitative and quantitative aspects into our research and design practices. In response to the evolving complexity and multi-dimensional nature of modern city centers, traditional approaches are no longer sufficient. The amalgamation of buildings, programs, and transportation modes has given rise to novel building types and public spaces. To comprehend the intricate nature of this contemporary urban fabric, urban design research and practice must evolve by integrating data-driven and performance-based design approaches. Throughout this process, our goal is to nurture urban designers and scholars capable of effortlessly integrating research and design, thereby propelling innovation in contemporary urban design practices and policies.
