Chicago Riverwalk Strategic Plan
The Main Branch of the Chicago River has long been overlooked in terms of developing a captivating skyline. In advance of the Chicago Department of Transportation and Ross Barney Architects' Phase One of the Riverwalk in 2007, the conceptual design for the meandering Chicago Riverwalk was established. Daniel Burnham's introduction of riverside promenades with the Wacker Drive viaduct marked a pivotal moment in civic vision. In the past decade, the Chicago Riverwalk has played a transformative role in redefining the river's significance. Following an 8-year endeavor, a collaborative team of skilled architects and landscape architects from Ross Barney Architects and Sasaki Associated successfully executed the complete extension of the Chicago Riverwalk.
